Best of Anime was certainly one of the highlights of 2012 – not only was it presented by the likes of the Japan Foundation Manila and HERO Channel, it also marked the very first live by a visual kei band in Manila (and second Japanese rock act to play in the country, if I’m not mistaken. Shonen Knife did a live in MOA last February 2010).
The event was also significant to the Philippine Street team because it was the very first con where we had a booth. Thanks to the United Jpop FCs, we were able to secure a spot together with Philippine One Ok Rockers (P.O.O.R.). We were only present for day 1 of BoA but boy, did we milk it for all it’s worth.
Having a booth gave us a great platform to share with people more about L’Arc~en~Ciel and of course the #LArcMNL campaign. We have spoken to a lot of people and have personally invited them to vote and to join us on our very first fan gathering. Even better, we were able to launch a signature campaign in which the responses we would then enter into the voting site.
A small area of the hall was converted into a mini-theater so of course we grabbed the chance to show our campaign video. PVs from other bands like Alice Nine and the GazettE were also previewed.
The audience’s reaction was priceless.
In the end we were able to secure more than a hundred signatures. Quite modest by most standards but still, we were very grateful for the experience. The folks from P.O.O.R. were really fun to be with and the fans who mingled with us were even more so.
And to cap off our fantastic day of campaigning at Best of Anime… what else but headbanging to Uchuu Sentai Noiz! It was so worth all the hype! The boys were in perfect form and the interaction with the audience was mind-blowing. But I’m reserving all that for another blog entry so keep an eye for it!
